Тема: «What are computers?»
Цель: совершенствование навыков употребления лексики, навыков говорения и аудирования.
Задачи:
Обучающие: активизация лексических навыков, совершенствование речевых умений учащихся, расширение социокультурных компетенций. 
Развивающие: развитие языковой и речевой компетентности, аудирования, критического мышления, умения высказывать свою точку зрения о проблеме.
Воспитательныe: формировать интерес учащихся к техническим новинкам и технологиям, развивать способность к критическому мышлению.
Вид урока: обобщающий.
Применяемые: интерактивные, проектные, компьютерные.
Оснащение урока:
проектор, компьютер, компакт диск «Spotlight 9», учебник «Spotlight – 9» (авт. В.Эванс, Д.Дули, О. Подоляко, Ю.Ваулина), презентация в PowerPoint, раздаточный материал.
Ход урока:
I. Приветствие. Вступительное слово учителя (мотивация). Тема.
Introduction.
Greeting. Warming up.1. Вступительное слово учителя: сообщение темы и плана урока. На экране компьютера слайд с указанием темы урока, иллюстрации по теме (слайд 2).
T. Good Morning boys and girls. Glad to see you.
We have learned many facts about useful inventions which were made in the long history of mankind. Most of them have really brought us comfort and convenience. We cannot imagine our life without electric lamps, cars or telephones, television or computers. They have changed the life of many people. We use modern inventions in our everyday life and they make it easier.
What can you see in the slide?
Can you guess what are we going to speak about at our lesson?
Right you are, the topic of our lesson today is «What are computers?»

What are computers?
A computer is a programmable machine. Computer's parts are a system block, a monitor, a display, a keyboard, a mouse, a disk drive, a modem, a printer, a scanner.
The major parts of a PC include the motherboard, central processor unit, memory, hard drive and video card.
Hardware is the computer equipment. Each hardware device has a diver, like video card drivers, or modem drivers. They need to be installed.
Drivers are mini programs or instructions that tell your computer how to use its hardware. The most important program that runs on a computer is the operating system.
You have a network when two or more computers are connected to each other. We have a network in our computer classroom.
Software is a number of computer programs. Computer programs are large lists of instructions for the computers.

TASK 3. Совершенствование навыков говорения.
T. And now let us listen to the dialogue between two students about gadgets. Please act out the dialogue.
Jane: Can you explain me what gadget is?
Tom: Technically, gadget is a small device or machine with a particular purpose: for example, a juicer, a blender, a coffee grinder, etc. They make our life easier and bring us convenience.
Jane: Well, what about a computer or a laptop? Are they also gadgets?
Tom: I think they are. A computer or a laptop are programmable machines, which include the monitor, keyboard, and a mouse (or a touchpad).
Jane: What can you tell me about the Internet?
Tom: The Internet isn`t gadget. The Internet is a gigantic web of computers that connects people across the globe. Providing an easy access to information and entertainment. The internet has become an everyday tool for everyone to use. Tell me, how often do you use the Internet?
Jane: Rather often, I'd say. I use it every day, because I need to read the news, to listen to music, to chat with friends.
Tom: Do you have any other questions?
Jane: Yes, few more questions. What gadget is the most popular among teenagers nowadays?
Can you tell me what your favourite gadget is?
Tom: I think that nowadays the most popular gadget is a personal computer. Nearly everyone is addicted to his mobile phone. All people have computers or laptops in their houses and they definitely use the Internet every day. 
Jane: I see. Thanks for helping me.
3. Group work.
Вовлечение учащихся всего класса в обсуждение темы, заявленной в диалоге.
1. Прием «Карусель»: учащиеся в группах (по кругу) задают друг другу вопросы и отвечают на них, высказывая свою точку зрения.
T. Thank you. Now in groups discuss the topic and try to answer the questions

Why do we need them? - Students are verbalizing their thoughts.
2. Задание для групп – выработать правила безопасного пользования интернетом.
Через 5 минут каждая группа зачитывает свои правила. В помощь учащимся выдаются карточки с необходимой лексикой.
Assignments for the groups: work out the rules of safe using the Internet.
Take precautions on the Internet
1. There are a lot of gossips and lies on the Internet. Think it over before you believe it.
2. When your net friend sends you an invitation for a meeting you shouldn't go without your parents` company.
3. Before you download something from the Internet you should use antivirus software to scan it first.
4. You shouldn't visit erotic and violent websites.
5. If somebody promises to give you an unbelievably excellent gift or job you should be very careful. Don t be greedy or you will be cheated.
6. If somebody asks you to tell him your name and your school, don’t tell him.
7. Don't tell others your password to the Internet. You should put away your personal data such as pictures, bank credit cards otherwise some bad people may use them to do bad things…
